Pregnancy is a unique journey filled with anticipation, change, and preparation. While every experience is different, there are practical steps you can take to feel more confident and positive about birth. Here’s a trimester guide to enjoy pregnancy without stress and prepare mentally for childbirth.

Trimester 1: Pregnancy Self-care

  • Listen to your body: Rest when you need to, and don’t push yourself.

  • Keep moving: If you already exercise, continue with safe, gentle routines.

  • Support your health: Take recommended vitamins and eat nourishing foods.

  • Avoid birth anxiety: Don't watch scary birthing videos!

Trimester 2: Build Confidence for Birth

  • Book a hypnobirthing course: Around 20 weeks is a great time to start, giving you plenty of time to practice techniques.

  • Join a pregnancy exercise class: Helping you to stay active and ease stress, aches and pains. Connecting you with other expectant mums builds your pregnancy support network.

  • Surround yourself with positivity: Kindly ask friends and family to share positive advice and birth stories only.

  • Explore your options: Begin thinking about where you’d like to give birth and what environment feels right for you.

Trimester 3: Prepare Mind and Body for Labour and Birth

  • Practice positive birth affirmations: Positive statements can help you feel calm and empowered. Listen to them as audio whilst driving or out for a walk or write your favourites down and stick them up where you will see them daily.

  • Relaxation techniques for labour: Dedicate time to breathing exercises, visualising your birth and gentle movement to prepare for labour.

  • Join a Pregnancy Relaxation class: Making time to practice relaxation is invaluable to preparing for labour. Treat yourself to some time to connect with your body and your baby.

  • Birth partner communication: Discuss your plans, hopes, and any concerns so you both feel supported and aligned.
